We have already met F.L. Cailler whose Swiss factory became the world renowned chocolate manufacturer Nestle, although the development and history of chocolate is a truly international affair.

In 1847 Joesph Fry is credited with producing, certainly in modern day terms the very first chocolate for eating. Fry was followed closely by two brothers, Richard and George Cadbury who produced their first chocolate bar in 1849.

The Cadbury brothers took their first edible chocolate product and built an empire from the humble cacao pod. When Daniel Peter switch candles for chocolate his revolutionary idea of including milk in the recipe once again changed how we enjoy chocolate. This break through was not achieved alone though, Peter’s was aided in reducing the water content of the milk by none other than Henri Nestle himself.

The conching process which ensures even blending was created by Rodolphe Lindt, once again proving that the chocolate industry promises a measure of immortality for the creative, inventive and persistent chocolate lover.
